One of the most beautiful jewelry techniques I’ve learned is wrapping gemstones with sterling silver wire. Unlike free-form casting, patina, or Precious Metal Clay, which create organic designs, wire wrapping is more precise, following a planned design. Yet, each piece remains unique—no two wraps are identical due to the stone’s shape and size, as well as the pressure and tightness I put on the wire.
This blend of structure and individuality makes wire-wrapped gemstone pendants interesting and fun to create.
Typically, I use 20-22-gauge square wire to do the basic wrapping, sometimes using heavier wire for the base of the wrapping, and oftentimes finer round wire to create tighter wrappings. Requiring minimal tools and no soldering, wire wrapping is a versatile and beautiful technique resulting in graceful and stylish pieces.

Rose Quartz is a perfect gemstone to wrap in sterling silver wire. The delicate color of the stone pairs well with the coolness of the silver giving this piece a refined and elegant look.
One of my simpler and most popular pieces is a version of this sterling wrapped, 14mm Kingman turquoise cabochon. It has more of an informal, laid-back look, perfect for everyday wear.
