Working on Turquoise
Coming up in September, I have a two-day show in Durango, Colorado, and I decided I needed to create some additional turquoise pieces. It seems to me that turquoise and sterling silver go hand in hand with Colorado. Maybe it’s the wide-open skies, fresh mountain air, pine-scented trails, and the beauty of things shaped by nature that makes me associate this jewelry with Colorado.
I am starting to work with pendants and will move on to earrings and cuffs.
This simple swirl design comes out a little different each time I reproduce it. The shape and size of the stones will vary, and the sterling silver pendant changes as well. It may be an oval, or slightly elongated and reminiscent of a treble clef, or it may turn out to be a circle like this one.
Regardless, the intention to create is the same - and that is the beauty of handmade jewelry. No two pieces are ever exactly alike
Looking for something a little more substantial? This beautiful oval turquoise stone is set in a sterling silver bezel. The overall pendant measures 1½ inches long by .885 inches wide and is sure to elicit some wonderful compliments!

Turquoise is a relatively soft, fragile stone, so it needs a little extra care. Clean gently with a damp microfiber cloth and avoid submerging it in water. Turquoise can fracture or chip, so be careful not to drop it or bump it against metal or stone.
Wishbones have long been recognized as a symbol of optimism, potential, and good luck. Creating this lovely, half-hammered sterling silver wishbone, set with a 6x8mm bezel-set turquoise stone, gave me a sense of peace and hope.
Measuring a bit over an inch and a half long, this little pendant could become your favorite talisman - a small reminder to embrace the possibilities ahead.
