The Magic of Moissanite!

Lab-created white moissanite is a wonderful alternative to diamonds. It is considerably less expensive than natural diamonds, and for those looking for an ethical, highly reflective, and durable gemstone, moissanite is an excellent choice.
In 1893, moissanite was discovered by the French chemist Dr. Henri Moissan, who found tiny, sparkling crystals in a meteorite crater at Canyon Diablo in north-central Arizona. Initially, he thought the crystals were diamonds. By 1904, however, he had determined that they were composed of silicon carbide rather than pure carbon, the element that makes up diamonds.
For nearly a century, moissanite was considered more of a scientific curiosity than a gemstone for jewelry. In the late 1980s, advances in crystal-growing technology opened the door to producing larger crystals of silicon carbide for the tech industry. In 1995, scientists and master gem cutters began working together to bring this remarkable material into the world of fine jewelry. The result was a lab-created gemstone celebrated for its exceptional brilliance, durability, and affordability. Since then, advances in technology have continued to improve its color and quality, giving us the beautiful white moissanite we work with today.

| These lovely moissanite earrings are a dressier design than many of my more casual creations. Featuring 5mm white moissanite stones set above reticulated sterling silver discs, they combine the brilliance of the gemstones with the rich texture of the silver. Sterling silver Byzantine weave chain connects the discs to sterling silver lever-back findings, creating an elegant finish.
Another earring option is a pair of sparkling 5mm white moissanite studs. They may be worn alone or paired with these reticulated sterling silver ear jackets. |
