Peridot for August
Peridot is one of the few gemstones that is instantly recognizable. No matter where it's found, peridot is always green. Unlike sapphire, topaz, and many other gemstones, peridot occurs in only one color family. Its shade can vary from a soft yellow-green or lime green to a rich olive green, depending on the amount of iron in the crystal. This vibrant gem has captivated people for thousands of years.

About 80–90% of the world's commercial peridot is mined on the San Carlos Apache Reservation in eastern Arizona making it very special to me as an Arizona jeweler and my customers. Volcanos erupting carried the peridot encased in basalt – volcanic rock – to the surface. Today, those ancient volcanic deposits produce most of the world's commercial peridot.
