Peridot

Peridot is the modern August birthstone.

It’s always green in color but varies depending on its source. Its hardness is 6.5-7 on the Mohs scale, so while its moderately hard, I always suggest it be stored where other gems can’t scratch it.

Peridot ranges from a pale yellow-green to almost a grass green. It can range in price from $50 to $450 per carat, depending on clarity. Peridot is found in various states of the US, including Arizona, China, and Africa.

A peridot has never been created in a lab and a real peridot will never change color regardless of lighting.
